Hill Stations, MussoorieThe elevation level of the state of Uttarakhand / Uttaranchal varies with altitude. It ranges from 3000-3500 to 5000 meters above sea level. The highest point in Uttaranchal is the Nanda Devi peak at 7817 meters above sea level. Though every nook and cranny of the place shines like an emerald, the major jewels (read hill stations) are Nainital, Mussoorie, Dehradun, Chamoli, Kusani, Mukteshwar, Almora and Ranikhet.

Uncountable visitors come and visit these places to relax and rejuvenate themselves. Mussoorie is a beautiful hill station and was discovered by a young British military officer in 1827. This place is considered an excellent picnic spot and trekking track by visitors due to non polluted surroundings and water bodies. It is well connected to other Uttaranchal cities like Dehradun, Roorkee and Haridwar. Its major attractions are Kempty Fall, Lal Tibba, Pari Tibba, Gun Hill, Mall Road and Company Gardens. Nainital is known as the Emerald necklace on the neck of Himalaya. It has a number of lakes with many legends associated with them. Naini Lake, around which the city sits, is the most important of all lakes in Nainital district. Jim Corbett National Park is very close to Nainital and can be easily visited along with it.
