History

Chamoli district comes under the Garhwal region and also assumed as the land of forts. In the ancient time Garhwal was recognized as kedar-khand. Before the arrival of British government, the entire district was under the rules and regulation of Gram Pradhan but later in 1815 the British Government had established its rule over Garhwal. There are a majority of religious stories are also associated behind the existence of Chamoli.

Jolly Grant at Dehradun is the nearest airport which is 221 Kms away from Chamoli whereas Rishikesh is the nearest railway station which is only 202 kms away from Chamoli.
