Surkhanda Devi Temple is around 8 km. from Dhanolti on the engine street running from Mussoorie to Chamba and is associated with Narendra Nagar which is around 61 km. what's more, with Tehri which is around 41 km. by engine streets in Uttaranchal. To achieve the sanctuary one needs to leave the Mussoorie-Chamba street at Kadu Khal and climb a precarious rising of around 1.5 km. by walking.

As per the legend, Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva, surrendered her life in the arguement with her dad, as Prajapati Daksha was not prepared to acknowledge Shiva as her girl's spouse. We as a whole know then that how Shiva hit the dance floor with the dead assemblage of Sati, irately and how by the Sudarshan Chakra the body was isolated part by part. Shiva went through this spot on his way back to Kailash with the dead collection of Sati whose head fell at the spot where the advanced sanctuary of Surkhanda Devi stands. Surkhanda Devi sanctuary is at a height of 2903 m and ringed by thick woodlands in a purified spot.
